HIV & AIDS Awareness & Education

The HIV and AIDS pandemic has had a devastating impact on South Africa, especially in communities like ours. Phoenix Child Welfare acknowledges that this crisis is not just medical—it’s social. AIDS knows no boundaries and affects people regardless of gender, age, race, or social background.

To address this ongoing challenge, our dedicated HIV Team conducts educational programs and community outreach to raise awareness and encourage preventative behavior.

These initiatives include:

Capacity Building Workshop

Trained 97 crèche supervisors at the Phoenix Youth Centre.

School Education Sessions

Reached 389 learners at Highstone and Clayheights Primary Schools, highlighting the dangers of unsafe sexual practices.

Therapeutic Workshops

Held for 80 foster care children, focusing on grief, loss, and healing.

Public Advice Desks

Set up at the Phoenix Taxi Rank and Millennium Market to provide walk-in support and information.

World AIDS Day Event

Engaged 97 participants in an awareness session. A mobile clinic was stationed on-site to encourage HIV testing and knowing one’s status.

Poverty Alleviation & Skills Development

Thanks to the support of the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF), Phoenix Child Welfare launched a Skills Development Project to empower the communities of Phoenix, Mt Moriah, and Mt Royal. The initiative targets unemployed individuals, including youth, senior citizens, and those affected by HIV.

Ongoing training includes:
