Youth Development
Phoenix Child Welfare’s Youth Development Team is committed to empowering young people by focusing on their psychological, emotional, and physical growth.
The team aims to:
Raise awareness of issues affecting youth and their impact.
Encourage peer learning and the creation of support systems.
Promote responsible decision-making among young people.
Youth Workshops & Programmes:
20 June 2013 – Allingham Primary School
Workshop with 300 Grade 6 and 7 learners highlighting the negative effects of social media.
12 July 2013 – Umhlanga Hospital
Session with 20 youth on teenage pregnancy and personal hygiene.
5 August 2013
Workshop with 180 Grade 6 and 7 learners focusing on substance abuse and teenage pregnancy.
9 & 14 August 2013
Joint workshop with 43 women and their daughters addressing the impact of domestic violence.
21–25 September 2013
Empowerment and pamper sessions with 21 female youth to build self-esteem and confidence.
31 October 2013
Workshop with 60 parents on the consequences of excessive social media and cell phone use on youth.
21 December 2013 – Eastbury Baptist Church
Interactive session with 30 youth and parents exploring the effects of rape and digital behaviour.
23 January 2014
Meeting with 31 principals from the Phoenix Central Circuit to present the Youth Development Project objectives.
27 January 2014
Similar discussion held with 30 principals from the North Region Circuit.
4 February 2014 – Ottawa Primary School
Skills-building session with 28 parents and caregivers of school youth.
18 February 2014 – Ottawa Primary School
Programme held with 44 learners focusing on youth engagement and empowerment.
